  • Course Topics covered: Stress and the effects of hormones in the body, exercise and immune function.

  • 1)  Adrenal glands release adrenaline (epinephrine) to stimulate receptors that can change cell function
  • 2) Excess cholesterol that is released into the blood circulation escalates the risk for heart disease.

  • Detail the strengths/weaknesses of this article.  The strengths are: that the author was accurate with his information about how the catecholeamines react in the human body. Also, the way this articles explains how blood platelets react by adrenaline and go into the artery at the injured part of the wall. (The weakness of that aspect is that it can “build up” in access amounts in that location causing serious problems)
  • The weaknesses are: According to studies performed in rats, the high-cholesterol diet develops atherosclerosis, but whether or not this overexposure of hormones have the same effect in people is still unknown.  Also, stress can cause heart disease, but perhaps this is shown mainly by the people who already are exposed to the heart disease.

  • How might this article be useful to you in your further studies and career?  I will be more aware of the effects that stress can play on the immune system,  heart and lungs.
