“The Doctor” movie review
17 July, 2007
The Doctor movie staring William Hurt is about a man called Jack,
who becomes an (amazing) surgeon and also learns first hand what it’s like to be a patient. In the beginning of the movie Jack lacked compassion towards his patients.
He was disregardful of their feelings. Towards the end of the movie he
expressed compassion towards his patients, even if they were unconscious. Towards
the end of the movie he appeared to be more of a humble Doctor, and treated the patients with kindness and became empathetic.
Due to Jack being a Doctor (and now a patient) he expected special treatment such
as being preferred before other patients. Unlike other patients, he had high
expectations of himself. Jack was inconsiderate and impatient. His patients who weren’t health care workers
were more patient that he was.
While watching this movie,
my opinion of Jack changed from: disliking his ways to approving of his new ways. I
feel as though he proved to have empathy when he set the example to other Doctors of requesting them to realize “what
it’s like to be a patient”, and that they are sick and want to be well!
In
watching this movie, I feel like I have adopted the attitude: To treat patients with dignity and respect. Patients may be scared and hurting. Their feelings are real,
so I plan to treat patients with a serious amount of empathy. I plan to make
them feel comfortable as possible while caring for them.
